The Artist and his JRT helper Maxwell
Originally from Teignmouth, Devon, Dick has worked from his Cornish Studio in St. Columb Major for over 50 years. His highly realistic traditional artwork has gained international recognition and over the years he has provided illustrations for over 25 books by some of the worlds leading publishers. His wildlife art has featured on many series of collectors plates. greetings cards, giftware, limited edition fine art prints and his original paintings are in collections worldwide.
Refusing to follow any trends in art or turn to a more contemporary way of painting he continues to paint in the traditional style of the artists he grew up with especially Archibald Thorburn and Charles Tunnicliffe whose work he has emulated and been inspired by since childhood.
Dicks great passion and goal in life is to share the flora and fauna of Cornwall''s coast and countryside, from the smallest insect to the largest mammal through his paintings and writing.
His work has featured in many newspapers and magazines nationally but now by choice Dick restricts his articles, shows and artwork to Cornwall and can currently be found weekly on Wednesdays in Cornwall's eight Voice newspapers.
He has written and illustrated two books of his own, The Painted Seasons and From Hedgerow to High Tor, both books featuring Cornwall''s natural world.

Morning Song 'Lest we Forget' ~ Skylark & Poppies
Pentire Headland, Crantock, near Newquay, Cornwall

Here is an original painting I have wanted to do for some time only having one suitable poppy painting to upload on Remembrance Sunday.
Poppies always make most of us think of the first world war especially x service personal like myself. So having some wonderful reference photos on file featuring the poppy fields of West Pentire at Crantock here in Cornwall I used that for my background. Skylarks have a wonderful joyous song and are always found on airfields which always reminds me of my time in the RAF. I put the rusty barb wire on the fence post as a reminder that wars are ugly and like the poppies a poignant reminder of conflict.  I am hoping to print and publish this painting as fine art prints for one of the veteran's charities.
